U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary
9th Western Region

Division 4, Flotilla 2

Serving Green Bay, WI area

To support the United States Coast Guard in its effort to find students to attend the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, the Coast Guard Auxiliary participates in the U.S. Coast Guard Barque Eagle (WIX-327)Academy Introduction Mission or “AIM”.  The primary purpose of AIM is to assist in the recruitment of highly qualified high school students for the Academy.  Each year, since its inception in 1966, AIM has provided the opportunity for approximately 220 young men and women  to experience life at the Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut for one week during the summer between the candidate's junior and senior years of high school.  AIM week is unique among the service academies because it provides an unusual opportunity to learn first hand what it means to be a fourth class cadet.  The Coast Guard Academy is the only national service academy where admission is through individual application.

Participation in AIM involves no obligation on the part of the candidate beyond paying a small fee to defray the costs of food and lodging for the week’s stay.  This fee may be waived in cases of financial hardship. Flotilla 04-02 provides financial scholarship assistance to its selected AIM candidates.

To qualify for this program candidates must be interested in applying for the competitive appointment as Cadet, U.S. Coast Guard, be a varsity athlete, and have some motivation toward a career as an officer in the United States Coast Guard.  He or she must be in the top 20% of their class; currently attend an accredited high school; not be over 18 years of age, nor under 15;  and be mentally, morally, and physically qualified.  A candidate is rated numerically by an Auxiliary scoring system based on a combination of an Auxiliary interview board score, high school PSAT or plan scores,  and a high school transcript.  Due to the competition amongst candidates, final selection is determined based on an interview with Flotilla officers.
