U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary
9th Western Region
Division 4, Flotilla 2
Serving Green Bay, WI area
Auxiliarists perform a wide variety of
tasks as volunteers. The pay that they receive is not financial. The
BENEFITS
of
Auxiliary membership are largely intangible, yet priceless.
In Green Bay, auxiliarists enjoy the "fourth cornerstone" of the
auxiliary, FELLOWSHIP.
There is a monthly flotilla meeting (typically the third Thursday of the month
at 1900)
and numerous social events throughout the course of the year (picnics,
barbeques, dinners, etc.).
Additionally, the auxiliary provides excellent opportunities for BOATING
SKILLS TRAINING. Seven different
specialty courses are offered to auxiliarists. They include:
1. Seamanship
2. Weather
3. Administration
4. Navigation
5. Communications
6. Search and Rescue
7. Patrols
Green Bay auxiliarists also have the opportunity to partake in Coast Guard
training for boat crew and coxswain as well as watchstanding. Please refer
to the OPERATIONS
section for more information.
However, perhaps the most rewarding aspect of auxiliary membership is providing
a SERVICE TO THE
COMMUNITY.
John F. Kennedy put it succinctly when he said, "Ask not what your country
can do for you, but what you can do for your country".
