U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary
9th Western Region
Division 4, Flotilla 2
Serving Green Bay, WI area
Flotilla 04-02 operates the sole remaining
AUXOP (Auxiliary-operated Coast Guard Station) in the country. Green Bay's
area of responsibility (AOR), which covers approximately 265 square nautical miles, extends from the Fox River
on the southern end to the Second County Park (just north of Oconto on the west
side of the Bay of Green Bay), to Sugar Creek County Park on the east side of
the Bay of Green Bay.
Green Bay auxiliarists perform a variety of on-the-water operational
missions at Station Green Bay. Specifically, the
Green Bay Auxiliary consistently performs these missions:
1. SEARCH AND RESCUE (SAR)
2. SAFETY
PATROLS
3. AIDS TO NAVIGATION
(ATON)
INSPECTION AND VERIFICATION
4. WATCHSTANDING
5. SAR
CALLOUT
SEARCH AND RESCUE

public. On-the-water assistance includes situations such as:

2. Medical Emergencies
3. Fires Aboard
4. Flare Sightings
5. Overdue Boaters
6. Vessels Aground

limited to, the following:
1. Fishing Tournaments
2. DePere Celebrates
3. Bayfest Fireworks
4. Amerifest
5. Tall Ships
ATON INSPECTION AND VERIFICATION
is an on-going process. As aids to navigation
are identified as being extinguished or in a state of disrepair, reports are
made to the appropriate Coast Guard personnel to have the needed corrections
made.
Coast Guard-qualified WATCHSTANDERS
assume the radio guard for the AOR during regular duty times. Station
Green Bay is typically "on-duty" during weekends from May through
October. The Station's "hours" are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
However, frequently there are situations that require assistance on-the-water
outside of "business hours".
SAR CALLOUT
During "non-business hours",
radio guard is assumed by Station Sturgeon Bay. Should on-the-water
assistance be required during these times, Station Green Bay maintains a 24-7
on-call team to perform SAR at the vibration or beep of a pager. The team
is able to get to the Station and be underway within 30 minutes of being called
into action.
